Manual lymph drainage
Manual lymph drainage is a very quiet and soft massage technique used especially for the reduction of oedemas. It means applying quiet skin shifting with a pressure phase and a “non-pressure” phase.
The pressure phase allows for sufficient opening of the smallest lymphatic vessels, which are located right under the skin and are closed off with movable valves. In this way the lymph can get into the lymphatic vessel.
The “pressure-less” phase makes it possible for the lymphatic vessel to close again, after which the lymph can be drained away further.
Not all the body’s waste products are drained away via the blood; the largest protein parts can only be removed out of the tissue through the lymphatic vessels. These proteins bring about, when remaining in the tissue, a flow of fluid, with the result that ultimately oedemas could occur. The lymphatic vessels transport the superfluous fluid to the large lymph nodes in the armpit and groin regions. Once purged the lymph is absorbed into the bloodstream or eliminated via the urine.
In most cases a light reduction of the oedemas can be seen or felt. For a good result more treatments are always required.
