Voor zijn relatief kleine omvang doen Australië het disproportioneel goed in Olympische competities. De multidisciplinaire aanpak en de trainingstechnieken die worden gebruikt op het Australian Istitute of Sport (AIS) worden wereldwijd als vooruitstrevend gezien. Eén van die technieken is het zogenaamde floaten. In Nederland wordt floating o.a. toegepast als aanvulling op Mentale Training & Begeleiding (MT&B).
