Hello, my name is Wineke Onstwedder and I’ve been working as a masseur part-time at Koan Float since 2004. I graduated in massage from Leffelaar in Amsterdam. Leffelaar teaches massage techniques based on principles of physiotherapy. I studied the following disciplines: Classical Relaxation Massage, Sports Massage, Connective Tissue Massage, Manual lymphatic drainage, Deep Tissue, Pregnancy Massage, Warm Water Cushions Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Baby & Child Massage.
I feel privileged to be able to work with people who need calm and care in their body and mind. Whenever people show symptoms such as fatigue, burnout, tensed-up shoulders, overexerted muscles or cluttered thoughts, you can, as a masseur, apply various techniques and thereby help to improve blood circulation, which will remove blockages and reduce pain. You can loosen up muscle tissue and make it more supple. A body that is relaxed is better able to restore itself and to re-charge its batteries.
Some people find it easier than others to make an appointment for a massage. It’s our job to make it as easy as possible. We are such a varied and professional team at Koan Float that everybody can find the right masseur to suit their needs. We talk to the client first before giving a massage, so they can tell us what they want and expect.
My specializations are Manual lymphatic drainage and Deep Tissue Massage. Manual lymphatic drainage can help when there is stagnation in the flow of lymph fluid. Symptoms may, for example, be swollen feet, swollen ankles and swollen legs. Lymph is a colorless body fluid which is essential for removing waste products from our bodies. The lymph flow can become stagnated through illness, stress or an accident. Manual lymphatic drainage can alleviate this problem.
Deep Tissue Massage can help when there has been long-term static overload on certain muscles (using a computer for too long, for instance). This can harden the muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage kneads the deeper muscle tissue until it is broken down and loosened from connective tissue adhesions.
Besides my job as a masseur, I studied Psychology at the University of Amsterdam and I also work as a photographer. I chose this combination consciously. I wouldn’t want to change one thing for the other.
Koan Float is a source of inspiration because of the mix of special people, the unique location and the pleasant ambience.
