FIT AND HEALTHY THROUGH AUTUMN: WE SHARE SOME TIPS WITH YOU!
The fall has started since last month. Of course, that cozy feeling is wonderful, because who doesn’t like to sit and enjoy the rain outside nice and warm with a blanket and candles. Unfortunately, it is also the period when flu and colds strike again more quickly. Time to boost your resistance.
Tip 1: try to reduce stress and make sure to relax
Nowadays it can be quite difficult not to be stressed. Almost everyone spends their time online and rushes through life. Still, try to take a moment every day to relax and reduce your stress by reading, taking a walk, or engaging in a hobby, for example!
Tip 2: get a good night’s sleep
In the fast-paced and busy society in which we live, we tend to think a good night’s sleep of at least seven hours is a luxury. And that while we need our sleep so badly to rest and recover. Research has shown that adults who had slept 8 hours or more for several weeks were more resistant to viruses than those who made 7 hours or less. Sleep appears to promote cytokines that are used to fight disease-causing agents. Try to avoid artificial and blue light from screens at least an hour before bedtime and ideally do not drink coffee after 3 p.m.
Tip 3: exercise
On average, Dutch people do not move enough. Especially now that working from home has become normal for many people, we really do sit too much. However, regular exercise plays a major role in good health. Exercise doesn’t mean that you have to get intense right away, for example, a regular (autumn) walk in the woods is perfectly fine. Bring on that endorphin boost.
Tip 4: eat healthy
A good way to boost your resistance is to pay attention to your diet. Healthy and natural foods without artificial additives are important here. Did you also know that vitamin D in particular plays an important role in strengthening your immune system? A lack of vitamin C can weaken the immune system, so make sure you get enough vitamin C through foods such as peppers, cabbage, citrus fruits and kiwis. Do you like to drink tea? Good news: the compound EGCG in green tea works beneficially on our immune system.
Tip 5: make social contact a priority
Visit your friends & family regularly if that’s possible. Because did you know that feeling lonely can weaken the immune system? This is partly explained by the fact that social isolation and loneliness can increase psychological stress. Meeting regularly in groups has a positive effect on your mental health and reduces the risk of depression. Moreover, it helps you recover faster when you are sick and is linked to a longer life.
Tip 6: a float session or massage at Koan Float
This one was coming of course, but it definitely can make a difference! Once in a while, treat yourself to a float session or massage at Koan Float. In recent years, a lot of research has been done on positive effects on floating. Did you know that it is also used as a treatment method for many types of ailments, pains and diseases? Most effects are cumulative; that means the effects get stronger the more you do it.
The positive effects of massages are divided into three sub-areas, namely overall well-being, mental effects & physiological effects. Massage offers many benefits, both preventive and therapeutic. In addition to deep relaxation, a massage can provide substantial relief from mental and physical stress. In addition, it balances the body and mind. Besides all the health benefits for body and mind, a float session or massage is also incredibly enjoyable!
